"More and better writing mentoring in a week than
I've gotten in six years of graduate school!"
-WriteOut! 2012 participant

A Writing Retreat

WriteOut! is a week-long writing retreat for doctoral students from all disciplines at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) who study race and/or ethnicity. Organized by the UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, WriteOut! is held two times a year, in the spring and summer.
The retreat includes a lovely writing space, accountability structures, camaraderie, printing and copying, and more!

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide the next generation of race/ethnicity scholars with the skills they need to do the crucial work of challenging social inequality. We do that by helping them think critically about the conditions of academic labor, be mindful of how those conditions affect their writing habits, and create communities that help them thrive. Our goal is to enable the next generation of scholars to challenge racial injustice and make the world a better place.
